This series consists of A5 watercolour portraits, mostly monochrome, often of musicians whose work shaped the period in which these pecies were created, with a handful completed as private commissions. Their small scale and limited palette allowed each portrait to be made in a single sitting, offering the rare satisfaction of beginning and finishing a work in one uninterrupted flow. The strong contrast between negative space and deep shadow became a quiet study in how form emerges, marking the early stages of my exploration into how tone and structure define a subject.
